Oh No. My wife has broken her leg, now my life has changed.
I actually had to go shopping in Tesco and they were playing Eva Cassidy 'Somewhere over the rainbow' back to back, wonder where they got that idea. The Leona CD section was empty so perhaps they has to sell the background music one as well.
Maureen, I went on Youtube and watch some Mariah Carey live performances. I wasn't that impressed, sure her voice is good but the performance smacked of 'Look at me I'm good'. She didn't seem to be connecting with the songs at all.
Hello Voice of Reason,
I hope I will be forgiven for being blatantly honest here. I not only don't like Mariah Carey for her personality traits, I actually feel the industry over rated her as a singer.
Barbara Streizand could wipe the floor with Mariah. An acceptably shorter voice range but all of it workable and all of it fantastic. 2 and a half octaves of bliss. Same with Celine another exceptional voice.
That's a good sales ploy lets create demand and keep the LEONA shelf empty for a while.
I have to say this I like both versions of Somewhere over the rainbow. I have seen the Eva Cassidy video version and that had me in tears. They both connect to the song differently but Eva will always be the consummate musician aswell.
Lets hope the industry pushes for Whitney as a role model rather than Mariah, otherwise the world will tire vey quickly.
Hope your wife doesn't suffer to long with a broken leg.
