The performance started quietly and I found it a bit weak. However as he continued Ray gathered more emotion and feeling and the song built into somewhat of an anthem.

It was like watching someone act to music as Ray acted out and performed every line of the song. This was a performance I would expect to see in a West End show. That's where I think would be best suited. He is a natural for musical theatre. i just don't think he is 'cool' enough to be a pop artist.

The judges said:

Sharon Osbourne: "Ray you sang with such great emotion. You gave it 200 million % of your soul. You're very talented."

Louis Walsh:" I agree with Sharon. You're one of the most professional acts in this competition."

Simon Cowell:
"You, in my opinion, now deserve a place in the semi final.......Ray Quinn I am very proud of you."

The performance of MY WAY was just one act and that is what RAY is all about, he trained in acting since he was young, it does concern me he is starting to strut like Cowell when he walks on stage! - pompous!

Get to the West End and and make it real Big - YOU deserve it - but You are not a Pop Star!

If only Ben was so confident he only ever relaxes when he gets the crowd reaction and he always looks depressed?

I think it was this performance that put Ray into the semi final.

He doesn't have the strongest vocal and there are several who were eliminated before him that shouldn't have been (Robert and Dionne for a start), however I think he put every bit of passion and determination he has in him to succeed in this business into that song.  And yeah, the song really did sum him up.

I was very surprised by this performance as I thought it was going to be awful and it wasn't.

I thought Ray went to stage school which means he studied dance, singing & acting. I thought Ray was good tonight and he obviously enjoys what he is doing. I think Ben gets over confident which is why he was so surprised to be in the bottom two last week, it gave his ego a bashing . I think Ben is quite good but I did not like last nights performance. It should be a good semi-final though.

Can I just address this thing about people saying Ben was really surprised to be in the bottom two last week?  There are all kinds of comments about him being incredibly arrogant because he never expected to be there and it's really annoying me.

He wasn't surprised he was in the bottom two - he was scared that he was going home, pretty much like any of them that ended up there. He was well aware that Simon has seen him as the one to stop Leona winning, as was Sharon, and they were both expecting Simon to use this as a chance to eliminate the competition.  Simon even said he considered it!!

Sorry to rant, I just get so annoyed when people draw conclusions about somebody they don't even know.  And it's not just happening to Ben either.  The slatings Ray and Leona are getting on some forums is awful.

Everyone has a different opinion, and sorry if it does not agree with yours. I like Ben but I do find is manner arrogant at times, lets be fair all the acts worry each week about being sent home not just Ben and Ray has had the nastiest comments made by the judges in my opinion. I felt that when Simon said he considered sending Ben home it was tongue in cheek, he said later that he had to vote on talent and I did not think he would vote deviously, plus it would have affected his two acts the following week if he had. Also I think he is too professional for that, I know the judges get at each other but most of that is pre-planned but Simon has always said he would like Ben to be in the final.

Simon didn't just say that night about sending Ben home.  He said it in the VT prior to Ben's performance this weekend.  He said he did consider it but knew it was the wrong decision to make.

As to the opinion thing.  Yes by all means have an opinion on Ben as a musician, singer, performer.  To even say he 'comes across' as arrogant to you is fair enough comment.  But to point blank say "Ben gets over confident which is why he was so surprised to be in the bottom two last week, it gave his ego a bashing" is wrong.  You don't know the guy and you have no idea what he was thinking or feeling that night.  That's an assumption, not an opinion.  They're two totally different things.

Ray should try to get on the West End scene, he could be a real star in ALL the things he excels in, singiing, acting ad dancing. His vocals (i begrudgingly admit) i dont think are enough to make him a recording artist, but hes got bucketloads of talent to boot and could make it big on the stage!

Yeah i had noticed that about Ben, he always looks so miserable. i wonder why?.....

Ray seems to somehow stay in week after week (my vote probably help s a little  Wink) and Ben has been in the bottom 2 for two weeks... im wondering if there could be a suprise Ray/Leona final??

Ben wasn't in the bottom two this weekend - there was no 'official' bottom two.  The three that got into the semi-final were called in random order.  Kate re-iterated that just prior to announcing that Ben was through. Smiley
