Hello everyone,

How often do we read of tV's rich list or the footballers who earn incomes that are so unreal we find ourselves disgusted.

I'm all for the fixing of salaries to an upper earnings limit of 250k.

No human being alive is worth millions a year, but every year some of tv's favourite personalities walk away with 2, 4 ,6 10, 20 million pounds a year and sometimes more.

Its an insult to the normal folk of Britain that such salaries are paid out to these people.

It seems to me that the saddest thing about tv is that it creates people who will be billionaires one day and for there coffers they do very little in return.

What do you think?

Are these people worth it?

I totally agree with fixing salaries for the BBC because that is run using lisence payers money.  However the independant channels really can do what they like.  They arent using tax payers money to fund their shows so really is there anything we can do about it?  I do think they should be taxed a lot more to take the pressure off lower income households but I dont think we can feasibly cap earnings in private corporations.

Hello definity123,

According to my colleagues the Advertising channels pay more than the BBC. But the earnings are still extortionate within television.

There has been an ongoing debate for years that top earners should  be capped. This debate was brough to the forefront again a few months ago in connection to the banking industry.

Taking everything into consideration though I think if there were fixed salaries than the rest of us wouldn't feel like such suckers. The gap between the wealth and the not so wealthy would become less obvious.

Personally it does not bother me what these entertainers get paid or that they are a lot wealthier than me (thats not hard  Smiley)  I wouldn't want there life for anything or any amount of money, it must be like living in a glass house. Everyone thinks they own you and are entitled to say what they like about you, the media haunt you 24/7 so you have no private life and they misinterpret anything you do or say  Roll Eyes  You have so called friends coming out of the woodwork to sell stories about you and most of them are stories completely untrue and the media will put a little paragraph hidden in a corner apologising  Roll Eyes

Leave me in my little corner living the life I have now as I am quite happy a little more money would be nice but I have my privacy and nothing is worth taking that away.

Lets be honest these TV personalities are not the only grossly overpaid people in the world, you have footballers, MP's, company directors/owners just to name a few and they are not as entertaining as some of our television personalities. You will never get away from the fact that there will be people who earn a lot more than others its a fact of life.

Hello again Trudy,

So very true.

I agree there are more overpaid people than TV personalities.

Footballers, Banking and finance workers seem to be the only other group we hear about but then so are the captains of industry. Gas company Electricity company bosses etc.

This year I have seen so many people struggling and when you see that it makes you think twice about salaries.
