Or any other TV talent show where competitors are judged on their musical abilities and not their family background!

Read the article here, I'd love to know what you think!

Tabby - yes, yes, yes! I have to disagree with the part about all the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers fading into obscurity, though - David Sneddon who won series 1, quit the spotlight out of choice and far from fading into obscurity, he now makes a lot more money writing songs for other people. Smart, if you ask me. Grin

We definitely need a decent talent competition. I think Fame Academy was a semi-serious attempt to find an artist who'd last longer than a couple of years. The fact that contestants were allowed to write their own songs and play instruments - no, encouraged to - puts Fame Academy of 2002-3 ahead of X Factor and on a par with this year's American Idol.

I especially liked Richard Park - there's a guy who's serious about his pop music, knows his pop history and could beat Simon Cowell in an arm-wrestling match. His advice as a judge was useful. He wasn't given to Cowell-esque soundbites. The only problem he had was that petty personality clash with Patrick Keilty, and I think Kielty was doing that to add drama.

Yes. Bring back Fame Academy. Bring it back now.

Perhaps we should start a petition here for its return and forward to them.

I'll agree, but just for members of the public, as there are now way to many celeberaty shows on tv. Give newbies a chance; I say

I'd like to see the return of "Fame Academy",minus Richard Parks and  Patrick Kielty please...I really dislike that Simon Cowell and Fuller seem to have the monopoly regards talent shows in the U.K.

LOL Elle, I agree Simon should spread the joy and talent show profits should be spread around more than 1-2 rich men who can never in reality need all their wealth.

Just to add I thought Paris Campbell Edwards from the last show ,was fantastic, but where is he now?Such a waste of good talent....Alex had a great voice ,but unfortunately very little personality ,which doesn't help...I did see her perform ,and the voice was outstanding ,however there didn't appear to be a connection with the audience.

The artists from FA did appear to have more substance than those churned out on, X Factor,AI etc,I'm afraid the current batch of TV talent shows are all too predictable now.

Simon and Patrick's relationship is so obviously staged - you get the same thing on Idol with Siom and Ryan Seacrest and they were both quoted in the press in the last couple of days as saying "it was all good, clean, fun". here's the same thing with Simon and Dermot O'Leary on X Factor, and bofore that, the same with Kate Thornton.

Hi gkey3...I don't object to the wealth they have,if they were finding real talent that had longevity, however I really do object to the mass produced pop they churn out, which is binned once past it's sell by date..I really enjoyed the 1st Pop Idol,excellent....the 2nd lost any credibility it may have had,too much manipulation.

A petition for FA please, methinks the time is probably right..
