Hi Wallis!  Good to hear from you again - hope all is well.  I also enjoyed Fame Academy and would welcome its return.   Richard played the Simon Cowell role, but he lacked Simon's charisma and judgement,.  They could have done a lot better imo.  (Why am I saying Simon has good judgement when he buzzed our girls in BGT lol!!!)

The BBC are definitely good at giving us talent shows and when you vote on them it feels like you are doing someone a favour as the BBC fund a lot training courses for people to do providing bursaries etc..

I do have two areas of concern though with the BBC.

One it is ageist. The best talent shows on this channel have age limits. That means its descriminatory.

Secondly, it catchment of contestants are all from either middle class well to do backgrounds whose children are already on theatre or performing arts courses. This means that contestants from working class family backgrounds and the lower socio economic groups have been aleinated out of the competition. This is descriminatory against social class.

On the plus side the educational programme of training in the background with harmony rudiments theory dance drama musical instruments and song writing is second to none.

Age limits have its place, though I do agree that there is also a place for "all age" programs.  I like seeing both.  I dont know where BBC get their catchment from?  How do they advertise them?  I was under the impression it was the same as ITV, but obviously not?   What do they do AT?

Hello Littleginni,

Every year the BBC advertise what it is looking for in the terms of talent. The search for New talent is advertised in a brochure which is obtainable by ringing the BBC or by the website. Sometimes Woolworths or WH Smith stocks them.  The BBC will also approach X number of Drama Dance and Music Colleges with a view to running a show which has a preset standard.

This is great news for students as they can be given an opportunity to experience a competitative competition with people of like mind. As for raw talent that is not targetted if this comes through its normally via the grapevine.I,e they will have heard from a friend on a course that a talent search is taking place and the means to apply.

Once the BBC advertise all the online magazines get news of it and begin plugging it, and 'THE STAGE' AND 'THE BROADCAST' Thursday and Friday industry papers also get editorials of the search.
