Hi guys,

Really curious here, what is Lady GaGa trying to get accross to us through her lyrics?

e.g. Poker Face, Just Dance and Love Game especially?

I've looked it up on the net and there are a couple of theories but of course she's doing this under her stage name so is it true to her - or just a character?

I'd love to hear your theories Smiley

Hello Robin,

I have a major theory that 95% of todays chart singers can't actually sing and that the population % buying into the charts is falling into decline.

The theory works in rather well when every year around christmas the only single set to sell is from the X factor.

I havent a clue what Lady Gaga is singing either maybe that's why she chose the name Gaga to match the lyrics being Gaga.

It's all about sex, isn't it? Poker Face: bluffin' with my muffin' and I think she says "I'll get him hard" and stuff like that. Then in Love Game, she sings "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick".

And I heard where she talked about being true to herself. I think she's got some kind of performance art background and she blurs the boundaries quite a bit. She may not be EXACTLY as crazy as she seems, but I'd bet she's not far off!

But people have been making tongue in cheek references to sex in music for years - I don't think it marks a decline in music, and if it is a case of self-expression, then I think she should be applauded for being so liberated!

I agree with Gerard, there was something very odd about her on Jonathan Ross, can someone please explain to me how lighting aerosol on fire in a bikini is art? Although to be fair to her she does write catchy pop songs, I think her lyrics may seem relevant to her but don't to any one else, she really is one in a million. And not exactly in a good way.

Hello Gerard,

This is true, I remember Brian Ferry singing  something called "Hit me with your Rhythm stick". It was a rubbish song but was very popular at the time.

I absolutely detest the lady gaga character, but what i think she's trying to do is to say that she's in charge of her sexual fantasies, and not the blokes trying to control her and use her for what they want. In my opinion she removes the dignity of sex as a result of love and makes it more animalistic instinct. that repulses me to be honest. Thats also the message youngsters are getting over the last twenty/thirty years, thats why they are so materialistic and thats also why a lot of relationships break down, and theres a lot of ruined families. Most things are about sleeping with someone to get what you want practically rather than emotionally. Sad I think.

I think that, like most chart stuff these days, the songs are actually written by a team using a marketing projection and a rhyming dictionary. Be a bit radical, talk in a sexually provocative way, dress up in something a pole dancer might consider to be quite revealing and you've got a No.1.  Real talent struggles to make a living while "performers" like Lady GaGa wriggle into their G string and the record-buying public of the world falls to their knees.

She's a celebrity. Nothing more.

I agree with that prole, A celeb, for the lads to drool over and the teen lasses to aspire to, strange what youth aspire to be isn't it.

Hello everybody,

Not so long ago maybe's 6 months or so ago, I watched a programme about how the American Music Industry creates and promotes female soloists.

I confess I had suspected for a long time that the big eyed overmade look and the scantily clad look that was extremely slim was what existed in the music videos and on stage. Sadly it also existed in the Brothels and the big arena shows and what I really realised is that what was being pushed was sex.

It was suggested that if a girl wasn't prepared to flaunt herself sexually she wouldn't cut it in America.  To some extent this extended to internal affairs at the heart of the recording industry.  Talent here meant something else.  Not that a girl had any singing ability but rather the ability to gyrate in a sexual fashion to the extent of being obscene.

I don't mean to leave it there but apparently the Brits also liked this notion of the sexy female and dance floor routines began to be more important than the singing of any song.

On top of this came the demands that should a girl want a singing career in pop she might need to agree to plastic surgery to enhance her boobs, have liposuction and botox. So i'm afraid this view of the industry was shocking and completely false, and unreal.

A girl choosing to refuse having  any of this cosmetic work done would simply be ignored.

It seems to me that this industry has moved to far in the direction of being false and promoting the extremely average or below average or none existent talented artist.

It's time British consumers boycotted artists who are promoted on the basis of sex and not talent.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), better known by her stage name Lady Gaga is an American recording artist. After being signed to and quickly dropped from Def Jam Records at age 19, she began performing in the rock music scene of New York City's Lower East Side. During this time, she was also working at Interscope Records as a songwriter for several established acts, including Akon, who, after hearing Gaga sing, convinced Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine to sign her to a joint deal with the label and Akon's Kon Live Distribution label.

Her debut album The Fame, was released in August 2008 and was a critical and commercial success. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it has gone to number one in four countries, also topping the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States. The album's first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", have become international number-one hits, and the former was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards. In 2009, after having opened for New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls, Gaga embarked on her first headlining tour, The Fame Ball Tour.

Gaga is inspired by glam rockers such as David Bowie and Queen, as well as pop singers such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. She is also inspired by fashion, which she claims is an essential component to her songwriting and performances. To date she has sold over 20 million digital singles and more than four million albums worldwide.[1][2]

I have heard of cascada, i don't think lady gaga is the lead singer, if she was then maybe she should of stayed with them. I've not seen them perform so i could be wrong. I just think the music industry is turning sex into lust and the true love and respect is dissappearing.
