For a breath of fresh air, I'd recommend The Orphanage, The Descent and (if you fancy a more comical twist) Severence.

I must admit, I did enjoy The Descent.  Very spooky film indeed.

I didn't like The Descent, and believe me I tried. Both times I tried to watch it, I was asleep by 3/4 of the way through.

Severance was great, though - I love Danny Dyer. I haven't seen The Orphanage yet, but The Orphan is quite good if you can cope with the daft ending.

Have heard of the films, but not seen them.  I like French cinema though, Jean de Florette, Belle de Jour, Belle et le Bete, etc.

Paranormal Activity appears to be causing quite a buzz at the moment, I haven't seen it yet but from what I've heard it's one of the scariest films in donkeys years.

A sort of indoor Blair Witch apparently?

I have seen both Martys and Frontiers. I enjoyed both, but preferred Martyrs because, although Frontiers was by a mile better than Hostel, it was the same idea - all been done before. I haven't seen Inside, but I will see if LoveFilm have it.

I really love Spanish horrors as well, and Japanese ones.

I went and saw Paranormal Activity tonight, and I'm not quite sure what to think of it, I wouldn't call it "amazing" or anything but it definately got under my skin, so much that I was shaking at the end, and this is coming from someone who enjoys watching horror after horror, it's great at what it does, it slowly and gradually builds up to an unforgettable climax, the pauses of silence, where nothing happens, are almost unbearable as you wait for something to happen, it was the first film in I actually had to cover my eyes at. It did take a while to get there but the last 20 minutes or so of the film were brilliant.

Thanks for that David.  What you have said certainly bears out the reviews I have heard on the TV.

David, I've yet to see it but it sounds like whats it like when you are on a Paranormal Investigation...I'll be sure to see it A.S.A.P ...   I've been told you get the same feeling as Watching Blair Witch, It's the Waiting for something to happen that gets to you.

My fav movie's are ........

The Others - is a Must see..I love Brill Twists

Sixth Sense - Another Good Twist.

The Green Mile - I Cry EVERYTIME  Cry

Blair Witch- Spooky

Pet Cemetry- I wonder if it could EVER happen in real life?Huh?

I'm a Big Stephen King Fan Wink

ooooh and lots more  Cheesy

I like your choices Mystic, I would watch that line up any time.  I like Stephen King, and I think the original TV film of Salem's Lot is one of the spookiest films I have every seen.  I also think the BWP is best viewed together with a set of ear/head phones because you pick up every nuance of the sound in the background, particularly when they are stuck in their little tent and there are the noises in the distance outside.      Shocked

The best horror movie to me has always been THE OMEN. It's far more scary and original than these new movies now.

I think it is a good movie that stands the test of time.  I saw the remake, which is virtually identical to the original, but I prefer the original with Gregory Peck.
