He was born Jozsef Kreul but fled to the UK after the Soviet invasion of his country, Hungary in 1956. Became Joe Bugner and went on to become British heavyweight champion. Moved to Australia and became Australian heavyweight champion. He retired in 1999 after a long and sucessful career.

I believe Joe fought Muhammed Ali twice, but lost on points. I seem to remember him as a bit of a wind-up merchant when he was interviewed pre-fight. So his little lecture on the bugs of the jungle was heavily laced with the wind-up factor. Heh heh.

On the contrary lysander, I think Joe is adding a bit of life to the programme. I don't think he is spoiling it at all. I am bored and fed up watching Katie Price non-stop and I love the way Joe is putting the frighetners up the others with his tales of spiders, snakes and other jungle delights. Just when all had settled down, in comes Joe to liven things up. He is one of the reasons I have taking to liking the programme again, otherwise it would be dull.

Slaney, I started out by being amused by Joe's wind-up tales, because I remember him being like that in interviews in the past, but I have to say he seems to have taken a different route and is now being rather unpleasant. Calling Sabrina "thick" because she didn't agree with him, and then saying she should do the washing up, not the cooking, was uncalled for - and he didn't say it in a jokey way either. Then his rude attitude towards Sabrina cooking the chicken made me wonder if he has a problem with her? I'm afraid Joe has slipped off my radar as a jungle favourite.

From that point of view Rosie I agree with you. I was not impressed with his notions that women should stay in the kitchen as was his implication to Sabrina. He does seem to have a sexist attitude towards woman that I do not approve off. But my arguement is that when he is talking about the dangers of the jungle amuses me as it livens things up. I just wish he would lay off the masculine thing that women are insubordniates. That will be his downfall. It is the one thing that is putting me off him but the directness of telling others about the dangerous beasts and animals and the harm they can do whilst jungle amuses me. |

Like you, he made me laugh with his wind-up tales of the jungle, and I thought we were in for some much-needed fun from him, and then, he turned, just like that, and got all unnecessary. I hope he will think better of it, and start being less of a Mr. Nasty. |
