The bid by Sir Elton John to adopt a young child from the Ukraine has probably failed, according to reports.  Just as well, as I think he is far too old to adopt such a very young child. His busy lifestyle would also make him unsuitable.

The fact that he and David Furnish aren't "properly married" was also a factor. I think it's a big pile of poo personally. I don't agree with celebrities being able to fast-track adoptions in this fashion when normal couples must wait and try and hope for months on end only to be told they can't adopt at the end of it all. But to say that Sir Elton is too old and that he can't adopt basically because he's gay is bulls***t. If he came back to Britain and married a woman legally and then had her live with him as a nanny or carer for the child, would the Ukrainian authorities change their minds? I doubt it.

Yes, Sir Elton is no spring chicken, and yes, he is in a same sex relationship, but he ain't going anywhere anytime soon, and he and Mr. Furnish, although only married by common law in Britain, have been together more years than I'd care to guess, and they are very, very, very financially well off. I don't see why they shouldn't have the same chances as any other celebrity couple.

Take Brangelina for example. I would think that the fact that they have like 6 kids already would make them less suitable as adoptive parents, but I'll bet if they were to go the Ukraine tomorrow and ask to adopt a child, they would leave with said child a week later, job done.

Personally I think Elton John is too old at 62yrs to adopt a baby, his intentions are honourable and he and David would make good parents but for the sake of the child it has too be looked at realistically not emotionally.

Emma I agree that the way celebrities like Angelina & Madonna are allowed to adopt children is so, so wrong  and they should have to go through the same process as everyone else. If they did they would probably be refused, over here you are required to stay at home with the child you are adopting for at least 6 months to help them settle in and form attachments to you, neither Angelina or Madonna have done this, they have been left with nannies and dragged on tour or film sets. There is no-way an ordinary person would be able to adopt so many children in quick succession as Angelina has unless they are related as it would be deemed as unsettling to the children already placed.  The assessment process to adopt a child over here can take about 6 months and this includes a training course yet celebrities seem to be able to bypass all this.
Everyone should have to follow the procedure set out in the Adoption Act it shouldn't be any different because you are a celebrity with money, it should be all about safeguarding the children and making sure they get the right family for them and live a normal life like any other child.

No, I agree that he is on the old side to adopt a baby, and if that had been the only reason mentioned in the news that the adoption bid was dismisssed, then I would think it made perfect sense. It was the part about Sir Elton and David Furnish not being "properly married" that rubbed me up the wrong way.

I agree Emma the important thing is to give these babies/children love and security. Problem is you still have idiots who even in these modern times are prejudiced against same sex relationships someone needs to educate them on life.
