http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x90tnjShaheen Jafargholi really was an amazing singer on Saturday night's BGT show. But when Simon asked him to stop and sing a better song he caused many people to wonder if the show was a little fixed. Now I know that each singer has to prepare two songs, that in itself is not unusual. But was it a coincidence that Shaheen's second song was so much better than the first or that the song was a Michael Jackson song when you consider that Shahenn recently starred in a touring production of Thriller Live, in which he played the young Michael Jackson? I can't make up my mind on this one, and I suppose even if Simon was aware of his talents it doesn't make him any less brilliant.

I did wonder about this being a fix. Simon has never asked another singer to sing their second song (to my knowledge) and by asking Shaheen to do another one because he thought Valerie was not good seems a little unfair on others who might have sung their second choice better than their first.

Hello Lisa and Slaneyvalley,
Well you should always sing for your first choice a song you consider that you sing well. Not average or so so but perfectly. It should showcase your voice potential in the simplest way.
When Simon stopped the young shaneen after the first line of Valerie, it is because the song is done now to the death. It is the nations Karaoke favourite song. It is easy and is very distracting away from someone with a talent as it doesn't showcase that talent.
The Michael Jackson song showed the true potential of Shaneen's voice, the fact that the youngster is in a professional production is what some folk may object to.
We will have to see what the next few weeks bring to match the standards so far raised.

In an interview on TV this morning his mum denied that it was prearranged, but we will never know. Even if it was done to bring a bit of drama to the programme he was still brilliant and well deserved the applause he got.

Hello Trudy,
I have to agree with you here. He was very good and deserved the applause and his place.
Lets face it there wasn't a great deal about Saturday gone that was truly memorable a Sax player and this young boy.
Maybe if the show gave us more than 10 second clips if that, we would have seen more talent.

I guess the producers of the show find it difficult to balance the acts out given that it is on for one hour (or there abouts). It does seem a shame that one act can have up to five minutes of screen time and another is shown for ten or twenty seconds.

Hello slaneyvalley,
You are right. I would like to have seen the acts etc from the members of our forum.
On an individuals website I viewed yesterday, this person had done the X factor last year, she had got to the final 50 but the programme only showed her singing 5 notes. What good is that?
I received a letter from a world class French Soprano who is a friend of mine and I pointed out to her that sometimes I feel that I'll be dead before I'm actually known and in her reply to me she said words to the following effect:-
'In europe pop music is not part of our culture, classical music is and it is supported via church and state. Talented and gifted children are educated musically so that by the time these children are teenagers they are planning for professional careers in music. Via X number of professional church and state supported companies.
In the Uk and in USA you have reality televised talent shows and as long as you have those the industry does not see the need to seek out talent but rather talent should seek out it. She went on to say that the USA and the UK had become serious bed mates on the music front which makes it very hard for anyone to succeed at home. Independent labels struggle to survive as the larger groups which consist of 4 or 5 companies under the one umbrella collar the market via promoting the same type of singer. At any one time there is only ever a handful of artists in each company currently recording and selling the rest is all past recording artists.

Right here's what irritated me about Shaheen's audition:
The setup of his tv slot or "audition" -
Ok, a little story about him before, finally, he walks on stage... He sings Valerie - Too fast and not particularly great vocals either... Normally at the point it would have been *buzz buzz buzz* Oh no! *cue the sad music* Simon Cowell stops his singing and asks him to sing a second song - he sings it brilliantly... cue the *happy music* the audience cheers, the judges give him brilliant feedback and he sails through to the next round...
At the end of the day, he sang well... however, there's no doubt that he's been given much more publicity than the majority of contestants so far...

I got the impression that ; from his point of view, the story would have been.....The producers rang him said, we loved the song in the audition, keep that as a second song, but can you do another first one! " Then they did that on stage, therefore, no fix, but a fix no matter what! LOL!

litle ginni you are bang on the money honey. thats exactly how it works, and the act themself is completely oblivious to the set up. it makes fabulous tv, and the poducers know it.
he probably did sing those 2 songs in the early auditions, and the team picked up on the fact that there is a massive difference between the two, but kept the ball rolling inoreder for simon to make 'magical tv' once again. god you gotta love them havent you?

Unfair on the poor lad though as people are presuming he was in on the set up.

A lot of people wont even think that, they just believe that what is put in front of them is true! I have long conversations about this when people say to be "well its in the papers it must be true" The poor artists dont even know a story is going in the papers half the time, never mind its the total truth or not!

Notwithstanding the clever editing and preparation from the team, the boy can sing. And very well. I bet he auditioned with Valerie. The production team knows - because they have shows this to the judges- that Simon will dislike it. The phone him and ask him to prepare a different song just in case. Singers are NOT required to prepare a second song. How did Simon know he had another song and the backing track for it? Don't get me wrong but let's now be naive. However, the little boy deserves it. He was absolutely fabulous!!!
