Hi everyone, it's really helpful reading all your feedback on the auditions so far! I have mine at 10am this Saturday and I'm so nervous!

I'm going to take a backing track in, do you just hand it to them to play for you? x

Complete dilemar over what to wear too??? I'm doing an old song and don't know wether to dress accordingly ie hair and make-up a little 50's? Or just to dress modern then the old song choice may be a unexpected?  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Sharon. x

Hi Sharon,

Good luck for your audition - I just handed my cd when I went into the audition room and they put it in the cd player.

Tough one how to dress, isn't it - I'll let someone else make suggestions, I've the fashion sense of a...well I have little fashion sense, put it that way Grin

Hi Everyone, I went with my daughter yesterday.  It seemed most people were singing, so perhaps they separate the singers from the other acts? It was so well organised and we were not waiting around too long.  My daughter went in on her own and got to sing the whole song.  She felt it went well, so we can only wait and see now.  Good luck to everyone auditioning.

I have the same dilemma that Sharon has about what to wear and I'm a bloke! I was going to wear something to make me look comical but decided that although I do make people laugh I really need my music to be taken seriously so I'm going to wear what I am comfortable with and that is a dinner suit, which is what I wear now when I'm performing.

I personally think that you will look great in both Sharon, I love the 50's era but may I suggest you try both costumes on and ask someone close to you for their opinion, it might help you to make your mind up? Sadly just like me it will be up to you in the end what you wear but may I just remind you of what Susan Boyle wore on her second audition? White shoes with black tights! You never know it might work for some but deep down inside we all know it is what you can do with your talent that matters. So may I just wish you GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks everyone! And thanks Henry, I did think of dressing like plain jane with my dad's old national health specs lol!  But it's sad when you feel like you have to make a show of yourself just to get to the next stage isn't it! x

Anway, went shopping yesterday with an open mind just to see what I could find and ended up with a black shirt, really tailored with a slim tie, smart straight jeans and a pair of killer red high heels! Still unsure about hair and make up but have bought rollers etc incase I decide on at least doing that in the old style as would still go with the outfit.  I now have a complete last minute panic about backing track versus acapella?Huh   I have no musical training so have no idea what key I am singing in, therfor I'm having huge difficulty finding a backing track in the right key! I have downloaded 3 so far and all wrong.  Did find a programme with a free 10 day trial called Keyshifter but format has to be MP3 and as yet I just haven't managed to sort it.  I'm starting to wonder wether just to try without the backing track now as I'm stressing over it and I'm not gonna have enough time to rehearse with it even if I do manage to sort it now?

Also do I just sing a short peice then stop or just carry on till they stop me?

Wow, that was a big panic of a moan lol! Any advice guys? x

Many Thanks, Sharon. x

Dear Simpsona may I suggest that you also take some flat shoes with you? It could be a long day and quite painful in them killer red high heels. My wife struggles so much with high heels. So glad to hear you found an outfit too.

Regarding finding your key? If your not musically inclined, what I found from an early age is that I sang in the same key as Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and a few other singers so may I suggest that you choose a record of an artist that you can sing along with comfortably and buy the backing track in the same key as the original recording. I know that you haven't got much time but just a word of warning if you do decide to sing A capella and that is that you can also start off in the wrong key if you haven't memorised the key or use pitch pipes to get the right key. I know because I have done it myself in the past and found it quite embarrassing so you need to rehearse it first. Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you. Break a leg!

Thanks hun!

Flat shoes - check! (already thought of that one, hadn't worn heels for years til about a year back so just getting me balance! lol)

Getting the right key without music - kinda check lol! Surprised I havent been arrested for singing to myself whilst walking along the street lol! Practicing every minute of every day.  Get the key right for me around 98% of the time so fingers crossed!

Hubby and one of my daughters coming with me although hubby might have to leave around 12 noon (audition time 10am) so may just be my 9yr old with me for support, she is my best friend though so couldn't ask for more!

I am worried about singing without music but to be honest the track I'm pretty much settled on (fly me to the moon) has no chorus, just 2 verses then a final repeat of the 1st verse after a 30+ second instrumental.  So in some ways singing without the backing track gives me the chance to sing at my own pace and end when I wish with out twiddling my thumbs during a long instrumental? Not used to performing so that's my worry.

Going to try and just enjoy the experience then just wait and see if I'm fortunate to get to the next stage. x  Checked out yr website and you look like you love performing so good on you! (unless there is more than one Ukulele Henry?)

Thanks for your input, feels really lonely when you go for something like this!

Best wishes and best of luck! Sharon.

Good luck, just go along and enjoy the experience and think that if you get any further it will be a bonus.

Hi Sharon,

Forgot to mention that last year I did a medley of 3 songs which in total was 3 Verses and 3 Choruses and they let me go through it all without stopping me so I would personaly go for it, after all it's your big moment so enjoy it and make the most of it. Oh and by the way they told me I had done a good audition but I still didn't get through but I can't tell you enough about what it does for your confidence to get a nice comment from the producers. I think that they know what it's like for us and are quite caring and after all there would be no show without us and vise versa.

By the way I sing Fly Me To The Moon in the key of C Major which is the same key that Frank Sinatra sang it in, women usually sing in a higher key but don't worry because they will have professional backing tracks for you when you get through and thanks for the kind comment about my web site. I do enjoy what I do, two weeks ago I played at an old peoples centre and it was fantastic one of them fell asleep during my first song, it was really great because it helped me break the ice with the comedy side of my act and everyone in the room was in stitches except the woman because the laughter woke her up! Sincerely, goodluck and stay positive and gain experience.

Thanks. x

Have been really worrying today for some reason to the point was thinking of not going which is silly.  Think it's more to do with just a lot on in general, on a new college course (teaching assistant) and going through high school choices with my son who has Aspergers and ADHD so just letting it all get to me.

Anyway feel a lot more chilled tonight, gonna go without a backing track and like you say if I get to the next round I will sort it out for then.

Actually feeling quite positive now and going to enjoy the day, my daughter is well excited about coming with me so that's helping.

Will post after Saturday to let you know how it all goes.

Thank you. Grin

You must go, what have you got to lose nothing, you will be gaining experience and from what others have siad have a good day out.  If you don't get any further you will have proved to yourself you can do it, met new people who share your love of entertaining. If you get through it is an added bonus and a further experience for you, blow caution to the wind and go for it and have a wonderful day, plus you cannot let your daughter down now can you  Sad

A warm welcome to any newbies here.

I always enjoy reading these threads and feel that within them there is a lot each of you can learn from one another.

Most of all I'm always pleased to read the positive experiences that people have as they are so much more cheerful than the negative ones.

So good luck to you all.
