Hi everyone,

On my search for Derren Brown books I have found a few which are out of publication on eBay... I was wondering if I could find out why?

...and where to get them cheaper on eBay?

Thanks Trudy,

Some of the titles include:

"Pure Effect"
and
"Absolute Magic"

these are out of publication (apparently?).. I can't find them on Waterstones or Borders site so it's probably true.

I've looked in my local charity shops but no luck so far... you never know though :-/

Robin, Have you tried the library, they often have book sales of old books to make way for new ones.

I'll try the library but I'm not so sure they'll stock it as it seems to be very rare... worth a shot though...

My efforts to buy it on eBay arent going well I bid upto £65 for a copy this morning then got outbid and now I've bid upto £104 for a signed copy and can't really go any higher (it's a hell of a lot for a book to begin with!!)... though I would like the signed copy!

...this is for the pure effect book and there's currently only one more of them on eBay at the moment :s

Well.. what can i say... maybe it was the eBay bug biting, maybe it was stupidity?.... either way I bid again and won the signed 'Pure Effect' book hopefully I'll be able to read and sell it... maybe for a profit? Smiley

haha oh jeez I better not spill anything on it - as it is my laptop needs to go back for the second time in a year because I've again spilt coffee on it(!!)

But yeah, I'm having a little worry about it at the moment - I've not paid yet and emailed the seller to arrange special delivery (at an extra cost to me, ofcourse) but he's not got back to me ... I don't want him/her to use recorded delivery as this only covers upto £39... hopefully they'll reply asap and let me know how much to add to it (and how to do it via paypal)... as I don't want it to go missing but I also don't want it to go missing and to lose my money :s

You need to buy yourself a travellers cup they have a lid on them with just a small hole to drink from, less chance of spilling it on your laptop Roll Eyes

Well, Today I received my book... Firstly I feel the need to comment on the condition of this book... you would think it was unread! and the packaging it came in to protect it was fantastic... I wonder why he sold the book after taking such good care of it Huh

Anyway, as for the book, it's really not for the average joe... Infact it does state at the start that it's intended to be read by those within the magic fraternity... So a lot of it went over my head and at times when discussing tricks it stated that it is intended for those who already know how to do it, those who don't will have to find out elsewhere! Luckily, I knew the basics to them anyway.

All in all it was interesting - yes, I read the whole book today. It even revealed the basics in how stop smoking hypnosis is conducted - when you think about it, it really can work.

I really can't say much else about the book, it's interesting - but probably only to those within the magic fraternity (well, duh! haha)

Although it was clear that Derren Browns' personality was jumping from the pages, it had a more serious tone throughout unlike perhaps "Tricks of the Mind" which is easily available everywhere.

You can always tell a good book because you cannot put it down. Glad you enjoyed it though after paying all that money it would have been a big let down if it was not any good.  He must be a book lover to keep it so good and pack it so well. What are you going to do now you have read it, will you keep it and read it again later, just keep it or resell it?
